Job Requirements

  • • Registered Chartered Accountant CA (SA) or an equivalent registered Professional Accountant recognised by a professional body in South Africa.
  • • Eight (8) years relevant experience in a financial environment of which at least 3 years should have been at a senior management level and preferably in a Higher Education (HE) environment.
  • • Comprehensive understanding of King governance framework, particularly King V, and its practical application within a public higher education institution.
  • • Demonstrated business and commercial operational leadership experience in engaging Boards and/or Council.
  • • Excellent technical finance skills and a confident communicator able to influence across a multifaceted organisation.
  • • Capacity to think strategically and innovatively and will adapt to working in a changing and complex environment.
  • • Committed to CUT’s values, demonstrating an ability to balance a commercial perspective in support of the overriding mission of the university.
  • • Possess in-depth knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS); the Tax Act, and the Higher Education Act
  • • Knowledge of the Integrated Tertiary System (ITS) or any reputable equivalent Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system
  • • Registered Chartered Accountant CA (SA).
  • • Master’s qualification.
  • • Ten (10) years relevant experience in a financial environment, of which at least 5 years should have been at a senior management level and preferably in a HE environment.

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Develop financial policies and strategic plans for the
  • section and institution
  • Ensure the financial sustainability of the institution
  • in the long term.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor a budget for the
  • section and institution.
  • Manage the performance and development of staff
  • of the Finance Section
  • Provide and present financial reports to Executive
  • Management and the CUT Council Committees and
  • Council.
  • Represent the University at external forums
  • Manage the Finance Section, including overseeing the operation of the following units:
  • * Accounting Services, Assets Management, and Financial Reporting
  • * Supply Chain Management (Procurement, Creditors and Central Stores)
  • * Student Accounts, Financial Aid and Fees, Bursaries and Loans
